Here’s a snippet circa 1994 from a Japanese film maker of The Underground Network party at Sound Factory Bar with Little Louie Vega, Don Welch, Barbara Tucker and many others. This video brings back so many magical memories of this weekly Wednesday night party, full of dancers, music lovers and music industry heads. Enjoy the film! Btw, I looked for Part II but didn’t find it.
I remember seeing Willie Ninja (R.I.P.) working the door as only he can and one of the last musical performances I saw was Michael Proctor; his voice was amazing. I was surprised to hear he sounded just as good if not better than the record :). That same night, Barbara Tucker got on the mic and asked the party people some questions, then she turned the mic on me. I don’t remember her question, nor my response, I just know she caught me off guard! haha. I think the question was along the lines of what the UN party meant to us. I gave like a one or two word answer.
DJ wise, Little Louie Vega was on top, his dj skills and mixes were fire. He rocked the crowd into a frenzy every week with his Strictly Rhythm releases like the ones with India and Barbara Tucker. This song right here sounded insane at SFB, as if her vocals floated over the system..and I was probably high as well
Being in the industry at this time, I got to meet so many great people, DJ’s, singers and performers. It was a magical time in my life that I will never forget.
